Who Hid My Game?

Don’t look now but if you like professional (men’s) golf here’s a newsflash for you.

The FedEx Cup worked.

It’s hard to turn the volume down on player complaints and no set of Bose headphones can muffle the cynical golf press about all the things wrong with the format…no matter how many equal payments you make.

For me, the tour is too far down the road. With almost every event losing it’s identity I just can’t quite stay awake for it. Just too much money, not enough pure pride of the game…and at Bobby Jones’ home course no less.

Last summer I posted about the then recent demise of The Western Open. It just didn’t seem possible this tournament could lose it’s name and therefore most of it’s heritage.

But if The Western Golf Association was able to fund a few more college educations for their caddies, at least there was an upside.

Apparently though that’s not the case as the scholarship fund, according to some reports, may have even taken a hit in 2007…that’s too sad to think about.

I just thank the Golf Gods nobody said Chick Evans, Sam Snead, and Ben Hogan are former BMW Champions…or if they did I was lucky enough not to hear it.

So it all seems kind of broken to me but if you want the best players on the best golf courses, you got it.

.
PS Check out The Solheim Cup for some cool golf…too bad the weather is more suited to Polar Bears but it’s still the best thing in golf this week.

  1. Michael Scott says:

Kelly Tighlman of The Golf Channel did say “past BMW Championship winners” in the telecast. As a midwestern kid, and former caddy, I vomited blood. May the Western Open and all her glory rest in peace.
