President’s Cup

If the PGA Tour thought their fall season had trouble against football, both Saturday and Sunday, with a helping of several pennant races (my poor Cubbies , c’mon boys, you’re killng me!), and a dash of Nascar, they ain’t seen nothin‘ yet.

The President’s Cup won’t turn up on a Google Sports search until the second page (at least early this morning when I looked), behind football, baseball, Barry Bonds, The Packers 3-0, Women’s World Cup soccer…for goodness sake even boxing is ahead of golf.

These matches bring the game back a little after the ridiculous race for the millions, at least for me. I’m going to pretend, for the purpose of this post, that the players want to be there and love the competition.

The truth is probably closer to their preferring 36 with me and my buddies at a muni, but it’s my fantasy after all.

It has to be true though that once they are all assembled with the flag waving, they want to win badly…and it shows. Yesterday Jack gave the old finger to the side of the nose signal to Phil instructing him to give homeboy Mike Weir a putt on 18 to avoid a sweep of the foursomes matches, thus showing sportsmanship is alive in golf, if nowhere else. By the way I thought we selfish Americans were supposed to stink at alternate shot?

Can’t wait to flip it on today and hope it gets a little closer.

It’s just too bad no one is watching…or maybe it’s fine.
